Archive Entry #004: Moon Blossom Monster Rug – Creature Stat Card

TRAITS

Aura of Overwhelming Elegance

Any creature that starts its turn within 15 feet of the rug must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be Charmed until the start of its next turn. While charmed:

  • The creature cannot take hostile actions toward Moon Blossom.

  • Has disadvantage on Perception checks due to glitter haze and distracting florals.

  • May feel irrationally compelled to compliment the rug aloud. (Cosmetic, but delightful.)

ACTIONS

Perfume Pulse (1/round, Reaction)

At the end of another creature’s turn, Moon Blossom emits a puff of sweet violet haze.
All creatures within 10 feet must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or become Enchanted:

  • Movement is halved.

  • The creature believes Moon Blossom is harmless and beautiful.

  • If the creature is damaged, the effect ends immediately.

Petal Missile Barrage (Recharge 5–6)

Moon Blossom launches three shimmering projectiles (flavored as cupcakes, butterflies, or weaponized glitter) at up to three targets within 60 feet.

  • Automatically hits (as magic missile).

  • Each deals 6 (1d4 + 4) force damage.

  • Each explodes in a burst of sparkling pollen:

    • Target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be Blinded until the end of their next turn.

Smothering Vines (1/turn)

Moon Blossom lashes out with velvet-blue vines at one creature within 15 feet.

  • Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit

  • Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage. The target is grappled (escape DC 14) and pulled adjacent to the rug.

  • While grappled, the creature takes 5 (1d10) damage at the start of each of its turns for 1d4 rounds, as the vines “cuddle” them.

  • If the creature dies while grappled, it is gently tucked beneath the rug.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS (1/round)

Bloomageddon (Recharge 6 or 1/day)

“She blossoms once. The world wilts.” —Inscription on a cracked mirror, found under a pillow of rose quartz teeth

Moon Blossom unfurls in a display of devastating, transcendent beauty.
All creatures within 30 feet must make a DC 16 Charisma saving throw or be overwhelmed:

  • Fail:

    • Take 30 (6d10) psychic damage.

    • Become Stunned until the end of their next turn, whispering lullabies or weeping uncontrollably.

    • On a natural 1, fall Unconscious for 1 minute, dreaming of flowers that whisper secrets in their mother’s voice.

  • Success:

    • Half damage, no stun.

    • Suffer Disadvantage on next action (Distracted).

Optional Visual: The air fills with glowing pollen motes that look like constellations. Any creature concentrating on a spell must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or lose concentration—because the pollen is just that beautiful.

FLAVOR QUIRKS

  • Speaks in a gentle nursery rhyme meter.

  • Bleeds glitter when wounded.

  • Hums lullabies that sound like your childhood… but the lyrics keep changing.

LORE

She was first found in a nursery—still warm, still humming. The child was gone, but the room smelled of sugar and violets, and the walls sparkled with pollen. Since then, Moon Blossom has appeared in temples, tea shops, dreamscapes, and once in the middle of a battlefield. Always lovely. Always lethal.

She does not stalk or chase. She waits. She blossoms.

Some believe she was woven by a grief-stricken god as a memorial. Others say she is the god—reincarnated in velvet and thorns, waiting for worship that always ends in weeping.

ENCOUNTER IDEAS

The Velvet Room

In the ruins of a forgotten manor, the party discovers a door sealed with red wax and ivy. Behind it: a single untouched parlor, impossibly pristine. At its center lies a circular floral rug—glowing faintly, humming softly. The air smells like lilacs and warm honey.

Twist: One party member hears their mother’s voice, softly calling them inside. If they sit on the rug, it curls up around them protectively, whispering lullabies only they can hear.

Combat Hook: If anyone tries to pull them free, Moon Blossom lashes out—gently but with overwhelming force, believing it is “protecting” its new favorite.

Tea with Lady Maribel

A noblewoman in fine robes invites the party to tea in her garden. She's gracious, kind and never blinks. Beneath the table lies Moon Blossom, seamlessly woven into the ground. The tea is real. The garden is not.

Twist: The entire setting is an illusion cast by the rug, but the party doesn’t know who is real and who isn’t. One NPC guest is another adventurer—trapped in the dream for years, having forgotten their past.

Optional Complication: If the party tries to leave or disrupt the “tea,” Maribel (a projection of the rug) calmly insists they stay for dessert... and summons Bloomageddon.

The Sleeper’s Nursery

The party stumbles into a sealed room below an overgrown temple. A music box is playing. A young woman lies asleep on the rug, surrounded by glowing flower petals and drifting pollen. She is alive—but hasn’t aged in decades.

Twist: The woman is the rug’s original host. If awakened, she begins to cry and cannot explain why. Her presence weakens the rug, but she is psychically linked to it—any harm to the rug causes her to scream in pain.

Combat Hook: If the players attack Moon Blossom, it lashes out defensively and attempts to grapple and cuddle her again unless she is removed from the room.
